Turning Up the Heat - How Data Centers and Energy Actors Can Help Build the Net Zero City.

Cities consume two-thirds of global energy and produce over 70% of carbon emissions, a number set to rise with increasing urbanization. At COP28, governments committed to doubling energy efficiency and tripling renewable energy by 2030 while shifting away from fossil fuels. With their dense populations and role as innovation hubs, cities are well-placed to drive the energy transition.

Data centers and industries, major contributors to electricity demand, offer unique opportunities: their waste heat can support urban heating, enhancing energy security, affordability, and competitiveness while creating jobs. By uniting policymakers, industry leaders, and financiers, we discuss how data centers and industry can accelerate cities’ net-zero transition, benchmarking existing solutions and uncovering scalable models for sustainable development.
